A Thank You

Although new posts have dried up here at 4 Wise Monkeys due to other projects we are all involved in away from 4wm - let me assure you that the wheels are moving here and progress is being made everywhere.

I would like to personally thank everyone who has been involved in helping us gather information against DC Marketing and their "business practices". We are receiving hundreds of hits per day on the subject as well as being able to gather some interesting trends (eg. times when DC are making the most calls etc). Tomorrow a report will be finalised and personally delivered to many news agencies. If you all lucky, we may even have some cool graphics to show you in relation to the stats

  1. Like everyone else I googled the number 0395405189 after receiving two missed calls (the ring was very short as you describe). Thank you for your site - I would have returned the call if I hadn’t found it. Keep up the good work - I hope you can stop them.

  2. I think that maybe I have been targeted with this scam! I am assuming I’m at the right place. They rang my mobile and I rang them back, charging me more than $2.00 a minute. I had no idea that this was the case. The number that I was left was 0284042298. They rang me at 8.37 Saturday night 13/5/06. I hope that this can also help in the investigation. I am really “cheesed off” about it. I wish you all the best in stopping these idiots.

  3. Keep it up boys (and girls??)! I don’t know how these people sleep at night and continue to dribble the marketing crap as if they are actually doing consumers a good and decent service. And shame on the lawyers that support it.

  4. Thanks for the warning - I just had a call from 02 8404 2235 and I did not call it back. I googled it and discovered it was a scam. I must say this is the first I have heard of it. I shall now warn all my friends. Thanks once again.

  5. Hi, Monkeys. Thanks from me, too, for the info you’ve compiled on this. Certainly DC’s boast about cutting your google traffic didn’t affect me — 4WM was the first listing on the number I was left to call back.

Now a question, please — I got the DC call on Saturday (20/5/06), but I got an SMS (though probably an MMS) on Friday night from “Splash” — dunno what it says because I’ve got a low-tech phone. (comes up “Message cannot be displayed”).

Is there a possibility the two could be linked? Perhaps the first one was to see if my number was “live”? Or am I just unlucky in being spammed twice in two days?

    Thanks again, and good work!

  6. I wouldn’t think the two would be linked, dc doesn’t seem to send people sms’s unless you sigh up (or are a 4 wise monkey)…. You can always bring this up in the forum though and see what people can come up with: http://4wisemonkeys.com/community

  7. Just got spammed by 02 8404 2296 tonight at 8:33pm. I came across this website after my partner told me about this scam.

I wonder how they would like it if I prank called their Martin Pl office all day tomorrow for fun.

  8. I had a missed call from 0284042298 tonight at 21:11pm. This is not the first time this sort of thing has come up on my phone. We googled the last one too and to our surprise it was a scam, so I immediately googled this no. too. I wish they’d P*** OFF.

  10. Like so many others here, I found your site when I googled that damn phone number. Go for the jugular, monkeys! May the directors of DC be cursed with tissues in every load of dark laundry from here to eternity. Thanks for hunting them down on behalf of responsible phone users everywhere.

  13. Hello Claire,

I also got a call from the exact same number as you- 0284042298, the 14/06/2006. Thankfully I am extremely cheap and don’t return missed calls, so I did not fall into the scam. Out of curiosity I googled the number and arrived at this page- how surprising to find out it was a scam! I had an inkling though, after that report on Today/Tonight. Advice to all- be a cheap-ass like me and don’t return missed calls. If it’s someone actually important, they will ring back.

  14. Thanks for the info - received a call at 8.08 am thankfully missed it. If I don’t know the number I don’t call back either. If its important they will call back. Typed the number at google and came up with this site - very useful. Will do it with all numbers I don’t know. Keep up the fantastic work.

  15. Received a similar call, and was directed to this page via a google search on the number. Great stuff guys, keep up the fight.

In the meantime, please, anyone who receives such a call, complain to the ACCC, it’s easy and takes maybe 2 minutes.

  16. Hi guys - it’s still going… I had my phone sitting next to me when it rang at 5.48pm this arvo. I barely had time to turn my eyes to the phone when the ringing stopped. Googled the number and here we are! They’ve tried me on 02 8404 2298…

Funnily enough I got an email about this last week but figured it was another email hoax making the rounds so deleted it. You can be sure I’ll be digging it out and sending it to all and sundry!

Thanks for putting all this together and good luck!

  18. FYI - I did get a call from 0284042298 on 16th June. Thinking it was my mate (I was expecting his call, he always uses different phones) I’ve returned the call. Today I got my phone bill.
I was connected for under 30 sec - cost 56 cents.
