hmm, now that’s interesting. The number dosn’t seem to go by the normal pattern of there phone numbers…8219 0500 is the closest. ALTHOUGH, it could be possible that they have moved location, thus a new number..

I got the same number at 9:58am AEST on the 19th april. And the same thing happened the morning before but on a private number, i had the phone in my hand at the time and was quick enough to answer it, but it acted like a pay phone call without credit and just hung up.
When i rang, It said “Hi, your’ve reached Simons, and today is your lucky day,” then i hung up.
Isn’t it illegal to make prank calls?

yup… i got these pranks on both my optus phones..
first call was at 15:16 AEST on 19/04/06, and my the second prank was at 18:53 AEST 19/04/06.my sister also got this prank call on her phone today (also Optus).

I had a call from that number at 11:20am today 24/04/06 also……weird, it didn’t even register as a call, only got a txt to say that number had called, but didn’t leave a msg! My mobile is with B digital (who use optus i think)…..weird!

My mobile rang briefly at 8:58 this evening and showed a missed call from the number 03 8102 9565, so I punched it into a search engine and found this site! I was puzzled as to who it could be, since I only just bought the mobile from Virgin a couple of months ago and have only given the number to some family members and a couple of small businesses.
What initially caught my attention was that the ring was the default Nokia ringtone instead of the custom one I’d set (for all calls) - has anyone else experienced that oddity?

i am guessing maybe it has something to do with the new VOIP technology, allowing them to use programs to randomly call numbers. Maybe someone better qualified can verify this?

I had one registered at 11:58 am today, googled it because I’m a moron and came here too.
i thought it was a melbourne number (i’m in wa), with the “03″ code. ( ’cause some phone numbers, like Uni’s starts with a 6.) I have no idea what it is, apart form irritating, but I my phone’s on 3 and I’ve been getting a lot of calls like these… aaah

When I called it back, I just go the recorded message “You’ve reached simon, did I just call you? If so, it’s your lucky day, you’ve won…” about then I hung up, as I realized it was spam.
I hope this shit isn’t legal. I’m also with optus, if that information is relevant.

@Andrew: As far as we know here at 4WM, everything DC Marketing is going is legal so long as they aren’t using an auto-dialer to call the numbers.
However we know they are really close to the line given how they have attacked other websites publishing their actions.

Oh and while I think of it I am certain my number is not listed anywhere. Plus I have never called or smsed any competition numbers or ring tone numbers. I also rarely give out my number (I get hers :).
It would be nice if the telecomunications ombudsman could do something as if they put pressure on the carrier that is providing the lines then they may cancel DC’s service. I know from working at a phone company that the telecomunications ombudsman can be quite annoying.

If you have a NetConnect Card using the 3G sim you can watch thousands of hackers going crazy on the 3G network, which is by-and-large defenceless.
Nobody’s cottoned on to the fact their 3G mobile doesn’t have any firewall, and when your laptop is on their network, all shit comes down on you.
The ’scam’ is deeper than callback phreaking, I have a list of blocked IPs of hackers on 3G, mainly out of mainland China, Phillipines or Taiwan.
Appreciate the irony while you’re watching Big Brother on your 3G handset, feeling on top of the tech., sipping lattes and talking shite.

The do-not-call registry is one instance (perhaps the only?) where the United States has actually managed to achieve something through policy.

Got the call sometime today on my phone from this number… as aware that it was probably a scam, annoys me to no end… the mobile number has only been given out to close friends and family, how do they get it if they aren’t autodialing or something like that?

I recieved a call and I returned the call and it said (When i rang) “Hi, your’ve reached Simons, and today is your lucky day, for more info press 1”. I hung up instantly.
I was not charged, but I believe that if I had pressed 1, then I would of been.Don’t companies have to make you agree with their terms, eg: “press 1″ or “after the beep you will be charged”?
I always thought that was the case…
