Complaints about Dodo Internet

Before I start my rant, let me explain I am acting on behalf of my partner, and this activity happens at other service providers as well.

My girlfriend is the account holder on the Dodo dial-up account at her mothers place. Around the end of October, Dodo contacted the mothers house in regards to an offer to upgrade to broadband internet….

My girlfriends mother explained to the person on the phone that she was not the account holder at all, and had no say in account matters….Dodo staff continued to offer the product (even through they were well aware that they were not talking to the account holder)….This continued for around five minutes, until the staff member at Dodo Internet realised that he would be unable to sell this, and promptly gave up.

A month later a broadband modem arrives at the house, and $80 has been charged to my girlfriends credit card! She immediately contacted Dodo Internet to try and find out what happened and why she now had a new modem and charge to her account.

So what was their response? “You agreed to sign up to the account”. So of course, she demands that they go back and listen to the phone recording, which they agreed to do and told her that it would take a couple of days.

Three days later she calls them again, asking what the update is, the operator said they are still unable to locate the recording and that they will call her once they had make a decision.

A week and a half later, Dodo call her mothers house (after being told to call the mobile, or at work) Saying, “send the modem back and we will reverse the charges when we receive it”

We have sent the modem back, all well and good, the next thing just make my blood boil more so. My girlfriend checks her credit card statement for the start of January….Dodo have not refunded the $80, and she is still being charged at the broadband cost!!!

The scary thing is, we know someone that works at Telstra and she says that this kind of thing happens all the time. If someone need to meet their sales quota for the month, they will sign you up even though you say no….7 out of 10 people just accept it.

You can also see a lot of recent other customer complaints directed towards Dodo posted at Whirlpool:

  1. Considering that the company has gone broke a number of times I’m not surprised. Either their staff are getting paid on commission or these are the direct instructions that they have been given (from what I can see).

Will see if I can find other people affected by this :)

  2. Goto the bank and file a chargeback but you must do this within 3months of the transaction!

  3. See that would work - but it’s not free, it’s still going to cost her money to issue the chargeback… Not to mention she really shouldn’t have to do that in the first place.

  5. Dodo’s latest comercial will contain Tara Reid, whilst she was here for the Magic Millions Race she also filmed a new ad for them. She admitted to knowing nothing about the company but knew what a dodo was. lol.
