Steve Irwin - One Year On

Well it’s been one year since the world heard about the tragic death of an Australian Icon, a hero, a legend… I’m talking about Stece Irwin of course.

The pain for most is still as raw as it was when the news first broke.

Complaints about Dodo Internet

Before I start my rant, let me explain I am acting on behalf of my partner, and this activity happens at other service providers as well.

My girlfriend is the account holder on the Dodo dial-up account at her mothers place. Around the end of October, Dodo contacted the mothers house in regards to an offer to upgrade to broadband internet….

Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin has been killed

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,20349534-952,00.html

While I was never personally a big fan of the man, it is a shame to lose on of Australia’s biggest “exports”. And his work with all forms of wild-life was hard-pressed to match.
I know a lot of people aren’t suprised that he’s finally been killed by an animal, given his sometimes “reckless” behaviour - but it is still a tragedy.

There’s a few version of how he actually died, some are claiming heart attack, others are stating that the stingray barb penetrated his chest / heart. Makes litter difference in the outcome.

An end for one scammer

On the 10th of August we made an entry on the main page about a scam involving odd dedicated server orders (click here to read), e-bay scams and Intellectual property theft. After this post was made public we received correspondence from a number of people who had been scammed by Grant (thanks to everyone who gave us information, although we haven’t made a lot of it public every little bit helps - we will post more information as soon as we can).

In a post made this morning by Peter Cebulski the following was mentioned:

I have just received a very pleasing phone call from a Victorian Police officer named Mr Graeme Fuller, located at the Port Campbell Police Station.

He has just informed me that the Mr Grant Lambden was taken into police custody in Queensland some time today (Tuesday 29 August 2006).

Great news!

We would still love to hear from anyone affected by this scammer and will release more information as it comes to us.

Warning: Fraudulent Dedicated Server orders

We have been hearing a lot about some supposed fraudulent transactions for dedicated servers purchases lately by the owner of www dot ecnhost dot com (link removed to avoid referals).

The owner of this business (Grant) allegedly signs up with his own credit card. Once this bounces he allegedly asks for a login to the billing system to process another card and then starts trying various credit cards until one works.

We are slowly fielding more information on this and would love to hear from you if you have been affected.

Also, Grant, We would love to hear from you regarding this.

update: It appears that this character has also tried selling a number of Dell laptops on ebay with the username sydneysamie. If you have been hit by Grant then we can provide you with everything you need to take to your local police station. Please use the contact form.

4 Wise Monkeys Scamming and Spamming summary

The 4 Wise Monkeys have been tracking now for way to long is the DC Marketing ‘Ring Once’ and hang up leaving a ‘Missed Call’ notification on your mobile phone hoping that you will be ‘socially engineered’ into returning the call. A full list of the numbers that you may receive these calls from is listed over on the number index page (click here for link). If you return the call which is to a local number you are billed accordingly by your mobile telephony provider at the standard rate. The recorded message you hear if you do call this number will prompt you to dial a 190x-xxx-xxx telephone number that you are then billed at premium rates that are disclosed in the recorded message that you have just heard.
